School Spirit System

1. Central Billboard

1.1. I suggested for the school to have a central, open billboard where students and teachers alike can contribute to it by posting information over certain events at school because we are consistently uninformed at our school. This billboard would be located in an area of high traffic where students can have one focal place where they would just take a few minutes to see what's going on and be informed, and hopefully be more involved. The more aware the students are at Vance about these events the more the involvement and hopefully the better the school spirit. School shouldn't be defined as an educational facility alone instead it should be an communal and educational center that is for the social and academic advancement of students. My goal is to unify the school as much as possible in order to create the proud identity of a Cougar.

2. Final Senior Week Of School

2.1. Last year's last week of school was such a miserable sight to see because nothing at all was done and it seemed so said for the leaving seniors not leave this school with a big bang. I suggested that we have a final senior spirit week where we reflect and commemorate our last days as high school students at Vance. The last week for seniors should be something exciting and wonderful that can overshadow all of the miserable recent years that we have experienced in as well.

2.2. I suggested that at the end of this week that there be a Farewell Ceremony/ Pep Rally where the seniors get to say their final goodbyes to their fellow classmates that they have grown up with throughout high school. I want this pep rally to be a blast and to be centered around the school spirit and not the consistent and monotonous routine of athletic praise. I want the seniors to leave with a lasting exciting memory that Vance was a blast although we hit several rough patches.

3. Spirit Committee

3.1. I thought of a spirit committee that conisted of dedicated school spirit students that enjoy event planning and are very creative in order to have them in charge of creating these spirit events. Of course the members will have to discuss and plan out events and then submit their ideas to administration for approval.

3.2. This will help ensure a lasting foundation for the integrity of our school and instill school spirit for the future students of Vance.

3.3. I suggest that the first year it will be the student leadership team in charge of this, but at the end of our senior year we will nominate the people who have come to us with the best ideas for school spirit, thereafter, the spirit committee will nominate people that have come up with the best ideas for events as well.

3.4. I suggest that the size of this committee consist of 10 seniors and 10 juniors after our senior year to keep it going for years to come

4. Department Contribution

4.1. Each Department has at least one project that contributes for the school. For example, Art Project for murals for internal design of the school or Engineering designing catapults or amazing mechanical feats to display in front of the school. The purpose of this initiative is to push the school as a whole including teachers to guide their students to not only trying to receive a grade for the class, but to have a sense of purpose in their community, therefore, instilling intrinsic motivation for them to improve the school.

4.2. Cross-Department interaction was another suggestion that seemed far-fetched, but can be mad concrete if it is enacted in an amiable manner. What I mean by cross-department interaction is that each department can contribute one aspect to one another, such as an English Class writing a script for a play as a whole and the theater department enacting these characters and adding to the rich culture of the school. I despise the remoteness of each department because I want the school to be whole.
