2.3. Since the Missouri compromise did not apply to the large territories gained from Mexico in 1848 representative Divid Wilmot of Pennsylvania proposed that congress ban slavery in all territories that might become part of the United States as a result of the Mexican-American war.

3.3. The election of 1848, both the Whigs party and the Democratic Party hoped to win by not taking a Stanton on the issue of slavery. Antislavery Whigs and Democratic's joined forces to create a new political party. It called for the territory gained by the Mexican-American war to be called "free soil", a place where slavery was banned.

Democrats nominated Senator Lewis Cass of Michigan, the Whigs nominated Zachary Taylor, and the free-soil party nominated former democratic president Martin van Buren Senator Cass suggested that people for themselves should decide whether or not to allow slaver. Zachary Taylor, a hero of the Mexican-American war won the election.

7.3. Uncle Toms cabin was a book writen by Harriet beeder stowe. It was a novel about uncle Tom, who was an enslaved man who was accused by the cruel Simon Legree. The book became the best seller in the north. This book shocked allot of people that where not aware of Slavery untill they read this book. Whight southeners where outraged.

9.3. Thousans of people came to Kansas to vote Illigaly in the election of territorial legislature. Kansas had 3,000 voters but almost 8,000 voted. Kansas now has two governments. Tree days later John Brown, an antislavery settler from connecticut let eleven men to a proslavery settlement to to murder five proslavery men and boys, this started widspread fighting in Kansas.

Charles Sumner of Massachusetts was leading abolitionist senator and made fiery speeches denouncing the proslavery legislature in Kansas.days later congressman Preston Brooks ,marched into the senate chamber and beat sumner with a heavy cane until he fell on the floor bleeding out. Sumner never recovered from the injuries.

John brown was driven out to Kansas after the potto waterside creek Massacre and returned to New England.John went to Virginia and started to attack Harpers Farry and his goal was to take control of the guns they had stored their, they wanted to revert against slavery. No slaves wanted to join and John brown was captured and also killed with some of his other men.
