3. Learning Theories

3.1. Constructivism

3.1.1. Learners Build new knowledge based on the foundation of previous learning

3.1.2. Previous knowledge influences what new knowledge they will construct

3.1.3. Learners are responsible for their own learning and need to develop metacognition.

3.1.4. Teachers provide opportunities for problem solving, self reflection and collaboration where students formulate and test their ideas

3.2. Connectivism

3.2.1. Learning for the digital age

3.2.2. Our ability to learn is more important than what we actually know

3.2.3. Learning is no longer an independant activity, we utilize the tools available to us which alters how we learns

3.2.4. Connections available to learners using technology keeps them current in what they are learning

3.3. Cognitive Load

3.3.1. Working memory is composed of the visual and phonetic scratch pad

3.3.2. Working memory can only hold a small amount of things at a time

3.3.3. To learn something is to move it into long term memory. Which is done by making connections with previous information and create schema

3.3.4. Teachers can help students move information into long term memory by connecting it to their previous knowledge

4. TPACK

4.1. TPACK explains the knowledge teachers need to teach using technology effectively

4.2. TPACK includes: Content, pedagogy, and technology and how each factor interacts

4.3. Good teaching requires that teachers understand how technology relates to pedagogy and content

4.4. Technology allows teachers to further their knowledge about content and pedagogy
