1.2. Private Agencies
1.2.1. work in local areas as well as internationally to find good homes for children
1.2.2. work with governments and other legal agencies around the world
1.3. Whichever agency is chosen, they work to find a good home for children whose mothers are not able to care for the child
2. What are the types?
2.1. Open
2.1.1. a fully disclosed adoption which allows communication between adoptive parents and/or the child, with the birth parent(s).
2.2. Closed
2.2.1. non-identifying information about the child and adoptive parent until the adoptive placement, after which no communication is shared.
2.3. Domestic
2.3.1. the placement of a child with an adoptive family within the child's own country of birth, including inter-provincial adoptions.
2.4. International
2.4.1. the placement of a child with an adoptive family outside of the child's own country of birth.
3. Reasons
3.1. Birth Parents
3.1.1. unable or unwilling to care for the child
3.1.2. pressure from family members or partners
3.1.3. legally required to give up the child
3.2. Adoptive Parents
3.2.1. infertility
3.2.2. philosophical or religious reasons
3.2.3. to formalize a step-parent relationship
