1. Deviance Does?

1.1. Project Reflection

1.1.1. During this project my group and I had to choose a deviance within our school. A deviance is a differing from a norm or from the accepted standards of a society. The deviance that we choose was drug use. After we figured this out we then had to make a root cause analysis chart and work backwards to find what causes people to used drugs. We found that stress causes people to use drugs. We then had to come up with ways to prevent people from using. In the prezi below it shows the steps that we did. This project required us to use collaboration, citizenship, and communication almost everyday. Everyday we had to work that needed to get done but only got done if we all contributed. We used these SWLOs to start and finish our root cause analysis, come up with solutions, and make and present our presentation. Technology also ties into this. We had to use technology many times research and make our presentation. Problem solving and work ethic were also incorporated in this because our whole goal throughout this project was to solve a problem, but in order to do this we had to manage our work everyday at a timely manner. Standards used: SS 7.4, SS7.6, SS7.8, I had to design and carry out school and community to address a local aspect of a social problem, and discuss the implications of social problems and evaluate possible solutions to resolving these problems. Then finding consequences that could result from those solutions.

2. Culture and You

2.1. Project Reflection

2.1.1. In this project I had to make a online garden that incorporated fruits and vegetables of different cultures. We got this idea from a book that we read. After figuring out what we wanted to incorporate in this garden, we then had a task of making the birds eye view of this garden mean something. We wanted this garden to look like camouflage. We wanted every new member to leave a donation, and part of that donation would go to a charity that helped the military. Communication and collaboration was used in this project because my group and I had to discuss our ideas to agree on one. We also used communication and collaboration to keep an eye on our garden to make sure that it does not die. This also ties in with work ethic. Standards used: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.10, SS.S.2.1 2007, SS.S.2.2 2007, SS.S.2.10 2007, SS.S.2.12 2007. Reading and comprehending texts independently and proficiently played a major role in this project. We had to define key components of a culture. Some examples are knowledge, language, communication, customs, values, norms, and physical objects. We also had to show leadership by managing disagreements and resolving problems, and work cooperatively and independently in class.

3. Everyone`s A Critic

3.1. Project Reflection

3.1.1. During this project I had to find a way that people that are angry, sad, or happy expressed themselves. I took a survey that many people took that told me what they did when they felt this way. After I got the results I then made up a dance and my partner played the guitar that demonstrated happy and sad behaviors. Collaboration and communication was used a lot because I had to talk to my partner about what we were doing and what kind of music he was composing. Then we had to make practice (tying in with work ethic) days to make sure that what he was playing matched my dance. We also used technology at the end of the project when we had to record ourselves playing music and dancing. Standards incorporated: SS1.2, SS1.10, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.SL.5. We had to identify early leading theorists and looking at life differently and making a definition that works in a sociology that has personal application. We also had to make use of digital media and visual displays of data.

4. Reading

4.1. Reflection

4.1.1. My reading level had always been low and I have always struggled with it. I will admit that because I do not have an interest in reading, I have not done anything to improve it on my own. I think that during the summer I need to read as many books that I can because that is what I need. My reading has improved from the beginning of this year to now. I say this because my teacher would give our class practice ECA tests and at the beginning of the year I would fail or I wouldn't finish. By the end of the year I finished the test within the amount of time that was given and passed. I think that I accomplished this goal because my teacher gave me many tests and assigned books so that I had no choice but to read. I did not like it at first but I no know that it was for the best and now it shows. My reading scores have also improved since last year. Last year I read at a seventh grade reading level and now I read at a ninth grade reading level. This is not where I would like to be but I need to try to improve one step at a time. So I am happy for where I am at for now. I will continue to push to get better and hope that I will read every chance that I get this summer.

7. Norms, What`s Their Function

7.1. Project Reflection

7.1.1. This was my very first project of the year. In this project I had to explain how SWLOs are used in sports. The sport that I chose was volleyball. While working on this project I discovered that work ethic, problem solving, communication, collaboration, citizenship is used during this sport. After finding this I then had to explain to this to the class. Problem solving was used because my group members did not do their part in the project so I had to figure out what to do, so that I did not get a bad grade. Communication and collaboration were also used because I had to communicate and collaborate with my group members to get the information that they did research on. Lastly technology was used because we had to use the internet to do research, use a camera to record videos, and make a prezi to present our ending product. Standards used: SS.S.4.5 2007, SS.S.2.1 2007, SS.S.4.3 2007. I had to analyze what could happen when a person had unacceptable behavior and what are the consequences. Then I had to define components of a culture, and examine the ways that groups function.

8. Never Forget

8.1. Project Reflection

8.1.1. In this project I was responsible to learn about both slavery and the Holocaust. I had to research about both topics and try to make a connection between them to see if events that happened in slavery somehow influenced the Holocaust even though it happened years before. In the essay below, it mainly talks about the connection from a piece of artwork to the Holocaust. It talks about how the color black resembles death and how many people died during that event. It talks about the necklace and how it resembles hope and the Jewish religion. And how the mask that the angle is wearing resembles the gas chambers used to kill many prisoners. The SWLO`s that I used during this project was work ethic, citizenship, and problem solving. I used work ethic and citizenship a lot during this project because it was more of a solo project. I had many assignments that had to be done within a certain amount of time. I used problem solving in this project because I had to try to figure out why the Nazis and Hitler did what they did. Standards used: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.1, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.3, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.5, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.9, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.10, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.W.8. I had to read to understand what a text said and make inferences. Cite textual evidence when speaking to support conclusions from the text. I had to analyze the structure of a text and how and why people, events, or ideas develop, How two or more texts are similar in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take. I also had to read and comprehend complex literary and informational texts independently and proficiently. Lastly I had to gather information from multiple sources and integrate the information without plagiarizing

9. The New Tech Way of Life

9.1. Project Reflection

9.1.1. In this project we had to make a webpage that explains what New Tech it. This webpage lists the components that you would need to become a new tech school, and how things are done at Calumet. This web page contains links, examples, pictures, and a video. The SWLO that was mainly used in this project was technology. Technology was mainly used because we had to learn how to use a website and software. We were on the computer everyday to complete this project. We also used collaboration and communication because each member of the group was responsible to learn a specific part of the product, then we later had to come together to make the product. Standards used: SS8.8, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.4, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.W.4. We needed to discuss both the benefits and social costs of collective behavior in society and produce clear and coherent writing in the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. We also had to interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text.

10. Writing

10.1. Reflection

10.1.1. Last year I felt that my writing skills were good, but now that I know what my ability this year, now I believe that I am a good writer. Last year because I had a low reading level I also have a low vocabulary level. Having a low vocabulary affected my writing. This year my writing is better. I make personal connections to every topic that I can, use evidence, and answer the prompt to the best of my ability. Much like last year I still need to improve on spelling errors and grammar errors. Ways that I can do this is ask for help and see if there are websites that I can go on to take lessons to help me.
