1. A Vision of K-12 Students Today

1.1. The 21st Century Learner is submersed in technology in every area of their lives.

1.2. China has more honor students then there are people in North America.

1.3. WWW= Whatever, Whereever, Whenever

1.4. If the U.S wants to be competitive in the worlds education, economy, military ect. we need to step up our game in educating our children in technology.

2. Shift Happens: Educational Reform

2.1. 2006 College Grads- 1.3 million in U.S., 3.1 million in India, 3.3 million in China

2.2. Technology has our youths attention, as teachers we need to use whatever grabs their attention. 70% of 4 year olds in the U.S. have used a computer.

2.3. In 2005 the OLPC project set a goal to get 'One Laptop Per Child' to the 2 billion children (1 in 3 never complete 5th grade) living in developing countries.

4. Looking Backward Thinking Forward

4.1. Technology usage in the classroom has been increasing more and more rapidly since 1900

4.2. Even the greatest minds are unable to predict technology trends, but we are able to teach our students to utilize the tools at their disposal to the best of their abilities.

4.3. It occurred to me that there has always been those that have a hard time with changing with the times. ex. "My Dad HATES that everyone texts and messages all the time." However there were changes occurring throughout his lifetime as well that he thought was great. TV's in the classrooms as well as homes, calculators, projectors made things easier.

4.4. Laptops, Smart Boards, Tablets in the classroom take up no more room today then the books and tools of 1900.

5. Three Phases of Educational Technology

5.1. Phase 1- Replaces projectors, chalkboards, ect

5.1.1. Sub Idea 1

5.1.2. Sub Idea 2

5.2. Phase 2- Students use computers and textbooks are replaced by online sources.

5.3. Phase 3- Teaching students to be, producers, publishers, audience, and peer reviewers in their technology use.

5.4. It is important for us to educate not only our students how to use technology, but also our principals, school boards, and parents to the importance of teaching the children with technology.
