ARIIMA Project 作者: Mind Map: ARIIMA Project

1. Infrastructure Monitoring

1.1. Management of parking spots specially in crowded zones

1.1.1. Online reservations for parking spots to reduce delays and increase efficiency

1.1.1.1. There is a lot of wasted time before business meetings by people searching for parking spots.

1.1.1.2. Reservations include specifying: time (of arrival and departure) and location

1.1.1.3. Smart programming will be used to ensure fairness.

1.1.1.3.1. Fines will be given to customers who exceed the allowed time

1.1.1.3.2. A spot that was taken but that is still vacant after the reserved time will be marked as available for other people

1.1.2. Increase the public's accessibility to parkings' conditions

1.1.2.1. Development of an application for smartphones

1.1.2.2. Incorporation of visual updates in the GPS system and on the car screens

1.2. Intelligent monitoring of traffic lights in urban areas

1.2.1. Establishing car to traffic light communication

1.2.1.1. Warning cars of a potential red light crosser and taking a decision on whether crossing the intersection will be safe or not

1.2.1.1.1. Decrease of car accidents specially during late night driving

1.2.1.2. Installing sensors that make the lights turn red if no car is coming from their direction

1.2.1.2.1. Reduction of CO2 emissions by decreasing the travel time

1.2.1.2.2. Increase of efficiency and productivity by letting drivers get faster to their destination

1.2.1.3. Collection of traffic information by traffic lights (Rush hours, Number of cars passing, length of queue, waiting time etc)

1.2.1.3.1. Analysis of this information by the super computer and by local civil engineers in order to enhance these recurrent cycles

1.2.2. Establishing traffic light to traffic light communication

1.2.2.1. Each intersection communicates traffic flow information up to the next intersection in order to minimize overral total amount of delays

1.2.2.1.1. Decrease in the emission of pollutants

1.2.2.1.2. Reduction of waiting time and travel time

1.3. Economic aspect of this infrastructure implementation

1.3.1. How much will it cost to finance such a project?

1.3.1.1. Sunk costs to fund the project

1.3.1.2. Maintainance costs

1.3.2. Employment

1.3.2.1. Police officers who control traffic might lose their jobs

1.3.2.2. Other people, specially engineers will see an increase in their demand

2. Costs

2.1. Is a project this huge economically feasible?

2.1.1. Sources of funding

2.1.2. Maintainance costs

2.2. The money it will save due to its increase of productivity and efficiency

2.3. The employment aspect

2.3.1. Some jobs may be lost (police officer)

2.3.1.1. This is structural unemployment

2.3.1.1.1. Adaption to the new system will increase employment again

2.3.2. Others will be available (engineers, programmers...)

3. Security

3.1. Advanced face detection in order to identify suspicious activities/individuals

3.1.1. General description: ARIIMA will be monitoring suspicious activities by examining recordings coming from a large number of security cameras installed in the city and analysing the recording using advanced algorithms

3.1.1.1. Possible implementation : Pattern recognition algorithm to seek the trend of the individuals in their daily lives

3.1.2. Advanced techniques in the forensic face detection area

3.1.2.1. New techniques in face detection using video recordings

3.1.2.1.1. Identify people even using video sureveillance cameras

3.1.2.1.2. Need: Installation of a large number of surveillance camers

3.1.3. Huge databases of people are currently available and accessible by governments

3.1.4. BUT!!Delicate political sitiation in Lebanon potentially leading to refusal of political parties of the inplementation of such a system

3.2. Advanced individual monitoring by observing and checking data received and sent by people using their different electronic communication means

3.2.1. Monitoring of the different data sent and received by the different electronic devices used

3.2.1.1. Data monitoring is already done on the most current smartphones for debugging purposes.

3.2.1.2. Also done by phone service providers that could track your location, your most recent calls etc..

3.2.1.2.1. However once again, these options would cause some ethical problems

4. Hardware

4.1. Is the hardware currently available powerful enough to build ARIIMA?

4.1.1. What server to use?

4.1.2. What super computer to use?

5. Concerns

5.1. Delicate political sitiation in Lebanon that can hinder this project

5.2. Ethical problems

5.2.1. Monitoring people's phones at every second

5.2.2. Watching people all the time

5.2.3. Fear that an advanced computer hacker would hack into the system

5.3. Local resources

5.3.1. Are engineers well prepared for such a radical change in the working field?

5.3.2. Will the people accept to finance such a project?
