Jessie Street

1. Jessie Mary Grey Street was born in Bahir, India on the 18 April 1889
2. She was a key figure in Australian political life for over 50 years, from the women's suffrage struggle in England to the removal of Australia's constitutional discrimination against Aboriginal people in 1967.
3. Jessie Street campaigned for equality of status for women, equal pay, appointment by women to public office and their election to parliament
4. Jessie began her formal education with a governess. In 1904-06 she attended Wycombe Abbey School, Buckinghamshire, England. She matriculated by private study and enrolled in arts at the University of Sydney (B.A., 1911), where she lived at Women's College (1908) and also met her future husband.
5. Jessie Street was an Australian suffragette, feminist and human right campaigner
6. Jessie Street died on the 2 of July 1970 aged 81
