1. Alcoholic

1.1.1. Here Crabbe denies that he clearly has a problem, that he struggles with. Because he relies too heavily on Silent Sam.

2. Brave

2.1. "I turned and stared at the rec hall. I had to do something fast. I didn't even want to think of Mary in there with four drunks," (110)

2.1.1. This shows that Crabbe has gotten physically and mentally stronger showing how he doesn't only think of himself, but he also thinks of and cares or Mary.

3. Sneaky

3.1. "...he wrapped his beefy fists around the thermos bottle on the top shelf... He shook it and and heard the liquid sloshing around inside. Enjoying his triumph, he took a drink." (25-26)

3.1.1. Crabbe uses his thermos to disguise his Silent Sam vodka so he can have a drink as he needs.

4. resourceful

4.1. "I took a bearing, hung the compass around my neck, got out the box of pepper. I sprinkled half of it in an arc at our feet. "whats that for?" she asked. "for the dog. Let's go." (113)

4.1.1. Crabbe using what he has quickly takes some pepper from the store room to throw off the scent of Mary and himself,so that the dog won't be able to track them.

5. Clever

5.1. "she always gives our old clothes to salvation army...[I] told her I'd drop them off... but I kept them instead... They couldn't trace me if they didn't know hat I was wearing." (22)

5.1.1. Here Crabbe shows he is clever by going over even the smallest detail in his vanishing act, making sure to not leave a trace.
