The standards that my students will achieve hopefully by creating concept maps are the key ideas and details. My goal is to have the students be able to identify characters, settings, and major events in a story.

He and Sally finally get The Cat to clean up his mess and leave
The Cat brings his friends Thing 1 and Thing 2 and they try to get Sally and her brother to do bad things.
Cat does tricks and brings along Thing 1 and 2 to have fun with Sally and her brother, but he makes a mess while being there
Fish tries to get Sally and her brother to do the right thing and NOT listen to The Cat.
Fish explains to the kids that they should be more responsible and not allow the messes Cat makes
He is the author of the book and created all the characters
