1. Community and Famial Partnerships
1.1. Continually seek to learn more about the local community and families’ cultures, values, and expectations for their children’s education.
2. High Expectations
2.1. Empowering all students to reach their full potential.
3. Effective Commincation
3.1. Communicate in culturally and linguistically sensitive ways so students and families feel more welcome and inclined to participate in school.
4. Positive Student-Teacher Relationships
4.1. Take time to learn about your students' cultural backgrounds, interests, and experiences.
5. Culturally Relevant Topics
5.1. Incorporate materials that reflect the diversity of your students and that are relevant to their lives.
6. Cultural Knowledge
6.1. Find ways to connect the curriculum to students' cultural experiences and knowledge.
7. Self-Awareness
7.1. Be willing to reflect and recognize biases you may have. Be willing to improve and challenge stereotypes.
8. Safe and Inclusive Classroom
8.1. Establish a classroom culture where all students feel valued, respected, and included.
9. Not everyone will be willing to acknowledge their own biases and how those biases can be hurtful to students and others.
9.1. Being able to communicate calmly and being able to listen can lead to a place of learning and understanding for each respective party.
10. Biases and stereotypes may cause some students to not fully understand cultural signifigance of certain expiriences and events to people and students of different backgrounds.
10.1. Educate students. We might not understand it personally but we must understand why it is important for people of different backgrounds and cultures.
11. Some teachers will disagree with Culturally Responsive Teaching do to not wanting to change, political stances, and/or apathy. Some will not be able to properly implement it due to lack of training and/ord understanding.
11.1. Provide professional learning and trainings for veteran teachers and new teachers so that they can see the benefits of the implication of CRT. Provide better training in Pre-service teacher programs.
