1. Psychoanalytic Perspective

1.1. Stages of Personality Development: Oral Stage Fixation

1.1.1. Allison was either under or overindulged as an infant during the oral stage of development, which means she was either weaned from the bottle/breast too early or too late. As a result, she has developed an oral receptive personality in which she is preoccupied with oral activities. For example, throughout the film, she is often seen biting her nails or confesses to Brian that she drinks alcohol, specifically vodka. She is also overly sensitive to rejection, which is seen when she accuses the group of laughing at her when she tells them why she is in detention.

1.2. Defense Mechanisms: Identification

1.2.1. At the end of the movie, in order to deal with her anxiety of being an outcast, Allison tries to become like Claire. She tries to copy Claire's behavior and dress by letting Claire put makeup on her and put her in a dress.
