
1. Three-Steps Interview
1.1. Setup: Ss interview their partner and then each share with teammates what theyr learned.
1.1.1. 1. T procides the interview topic, states the duration of the interview, and provides think time.
1.1.2. 2. In pairs, S A interviews S B.
1.1.3. 3. Pairs switch roles: S B interviews S. A
1.1.3.1. Variation: Have students pair with another peer; have S A share what they learned with S C / S B with S D
1.1.4. 4. RoundRobin Pars pair up to form groups or four. Each S shares what they learned during the interview.
2. Talking Chip
2.1. Setup: Teammates place Talking Chips in the center of the table to make sure everyone contributes to their team discussion.
2.1.1. 1. The teacher provides a discussion topic and provides time to think.
2.1.2. 2. Any Ss begind the discussion, placing one of their chips in the center of the table.
2.1.3. 3. Any student with a chip continues the discussion.
2.1.4. 4. When all chips are used teammates collect back their chips and continues the discussion, again with the chips.
3. FInd someone who
3.1. Setup: Students circulate through the classroom forming and reforming pairs trying to "find soemone who" knows an answer, then theny become someone who knows.
3.1.1. 1. Students mix in the class, keeping a hand raiseed until they find a partner that is not a teammate.
3.1.2. 2. In pairs, SA asks a question from the worksheet; Partner B responds. SA records the answer on their own sheet.
3.1.3. 3. Partner B checks and initial the answers. They switch roles.
3.1.4. 4. Ss raise their hands and search for new partners. They repeat the steps until their sheets are filled.
3.1.5. 5. When completed they go back within their base team to discusse and compare answers. They can ask team question sif there are disagreeement or uncertainty.
4. Crossword Puzzle Jigsaw
4.1. Setup: A crossword puzzle is distrubuted to the students. There are missing information in the clues. Students have to walk around to ask their peers about the information gap on their sheet and complete the crossword puzzle by interacting.
4.1.1. 1. Give students the same crossword puzzle.
4.1.2. 2. T gives Ss different clue cards.
4.1.3. 3. Ss mix in the class room and exchange with their peers to collected all the clues and complete the Crossword puzzle.
5. Pairs Jigsaw
5.1. Setup: Ss in pairs are given different texts. They question their partner to fill out the informations they are missing.
5.1.1. 1. Ss find a partner. They each receive a differnt texts with same questions.
5.1.2. 2. They individually read their texts and take notes about important info.
5.1.3. 3. Without looking at the whole texts, only the note taken, partners take turns sharing the information they learned.
5.1.4. 4. Together, they complete the answers only looking at their completed notes.
6. Classic Jigsaw
6.1. Ss of a same team have different text. They complete their note-raking with other ss having the saame text before sharing with their teammates.
6.1.1. 1. Ss of a same team (4) each have a different text.
6.1.2. 2. They individually read their texts and take notes about important info.
6.1.3. 3. Ss groups with their expert team (ss with the same text). Without looking at the whole text, they take turns sharing their information and complete their sheet of notes.
6.1.4. 4. Ss go back to their base team. They take turns sharing what they learned, and answer the questions together.
7. Think-Square-Share
7.1. 1. A question or a topic is provided. Ss have to think about it individually.
7.2. 2. Learners pair together and work on an assigned task.
7.2.1. Variation: Ss only share their answer with their team without paring first, using roundrobin to take turns.
7.3. 3. Ss are grouped with another pair, sharing their work and completing the rest of the task.
8. Heads Together
8.1. Setup: T prepares questions or problems to ask teams.
8.1.1. 1- Students are in small team (4) (preferably pre-made class teams)
8.1.2. 2-T asks a question, show pictures, presents problem and calls head together.
8.1.3. 3- Students: discuss/ help each others, consults others ideas, and selects a team answer together.
8.1.3.1. Variations: - Students can write their own answers privately before sharing - they improve their individual answers with their peers ideas
8.1.4. 4-T uses a trigger word/gesture to stop the discussion. T elicits answer from a student from one team or more. (preferably use team member number or student number.)
9. Inside Outside Circle
9.1. Setup: Teacher prepares questions. or provides a question card for each student
9.1.1. 1- S found pairs. One student from each pair moves to form a large circle in the class facing outward.
9.1.2. 2- Remaining students find and face their partners forming two concentric circles.
9.1.3. 3- The students inside the circle ask the questions first and outside partner answers. Inside students can pray or coach the answer.
9.1.3.1. Variation: Rotating lines
9.1.4. 4- Partners switch roles.
9.1.5. 5- Inside students rotate clockwise to a new partner. (T calls to rotate "(e.g.) three ahead")
10. Round Table
10.1. Setup: In teams, Ss take turns generating written responses, solving problems, or making a contribution to a project.
10.1.1. 1.T provides a task with multiple responses, and provides think time.
10.1.2. 2.Ss take turns passing a piece of paper, each writing their own answer or contributing.
11. Round Robin
11.1. Setup: In teams, SS takes turns responding orally.
11.1.1. 1. T presents a problem where there are multiple possible response and provides think time.
11.1.2. 2. Ss take turns stating responses or solutions
12. Mix-Pair-Share
12.1. Setup: The clas mixes until the teacher calls, "pair". Students find a new partner to discuss answer the teacher'S question.
12.1.1. 1. Students mix around the room.
12.1.2. 2. Teachers calls pairs
12.1.3. 3. Students pair-up with the person closest to them. Ss that did not find a partner raise their hands to find each other.
12.1.3.1. Tip: Use a timer to manage the time of the interactions - Use trigger words or gesture to indicate starting and end time.
12.1.4. 4. T asks question and gives think time.
12.1.5. 5. Ss share with their partners using turn-taking structures
13. Within Teams Jigsaw
13.1. Setup: Like in classic Jigsaw, but students don't share with expert team before sharing with their base team.
13.1.1. 1. Ss of a same team (4) each have a different text.
13.1.2. 2. They individually read their texts and take notes about important info.
13.1.3. 3. Ss group with their Team (4). They take turns sharing what they learned without looking at their texts, and answer the questions together.
