TECHNOLOGY 作者: Mind Map: TECHNOLOGY

1. What I thoiught before the course

1.1. Technology is the new and improved version of things people create

1.2. It means using different tools/machines and different methods to make everyday life easier

1.3. The one thing that is not technology for me is Art

1.3.1. Art is made to make you feel good but does not necessarily provide a function

1.3.2. Example: Paints, brushes and canvases can be technology but the art itself can not.

2. What I learned from the course

2.1. (Kelly, 2010)

2.1.1. All the things we see today that are changing our lives, we can always trace back to the introduction of some new technology.

2.1.2. technology has become the most powerful force in the world

2.1.3. humanity is our greatest invention, but of course, we're not done yet.

2.2. (Li-Hua, 2007)

2.2.1. technology has to create things that benefit human beings.

2.3. (Thierer, 2014)

2.3.1. My personal favorite definition of the term comes from Emmanuel G. Mesthene’s terrific little 1970 book, Technological Change: Its Impact on Man and Society: “we define technology as the organization of knowledge for the achievement of practical purposes.”

2.3.2. W. Brian Arthur In his 2009 book, The Nature of Technology: What It Is and How It Evolves: “The first and most basic one is, technology is a means to fulfill a human purpose."

2.4. (Dyer, 2009)

2.4.1. “technology” is not just the phones in our pockets and the laptops in our bags.

3. Why do we need it?

3.1. Technology is allowing us to continually reinvent ourselves (Kelly, 2010)

3.2. Social learning and economic opportunities become far less likely, perhaps even impossible, under such a regime. In practical terms, it means fewer services, lower quality goods, higher prices, diminished economic growth, and a decline in the overall standard of living. (Thierer, 2014)

3.2.1. This highlights that technology helps improve services, the quality of goods and overall economic growth, all of which elevate the standard of living

4. How my perspective has altered

4.1. Technology and knowledge go side by side

4.1.1. A modern view emphasises the coherence of technology and knowledge and points out that technology transfer is not achievable without knowledge transfer, as knowledge is a key to controlling technology as whole (Li-Hua, 2004).

4.2. Technology also involves the organization and systems included in creating a product

5. New Definition of Technology

5.1. Technology is the use of knowledge, tools, and systems to solve problems, improve human life, and drive progress. It is more than just machines—it includes ideas, methods, and innovations that shape the way we live and work. Technology evolves with society, helping us adapt, create, and improve the world around us.
