Sniffer by Mind Map: Sniffer

1. Catalyst

1.1. For this film, the catalyst would be the pigeon that flies into the window of the sniffers factory and kills itself. This speeds up the story and triggers the main character to act on the fact that he doesn’t like his life and do something about it, making it speed up the process and narrative.

2. Circular narrative

2.1. The film opens with the man having fallen out of bed and floating in his room, and then finishes when he finally floats away. At the start of the film, he’s floating but he’s trapped in his room, and at the end of the film he’s floating but he’s free.

3. Audience expectations

3.1. The whole film completely plays with audience expectations, as the world in which the character lives in has no gravity, which the audience isn’t expecting. The first shot looks like he’s lying on the floor, when in actual fact he’s lying on the ceiling.

4. Developed character

4.1. The unnamed hero in Sniffer is the main developed character. The story follows his life and even though there is no speech or talking, we still get the idea of how he is feeling and that he doesn’t like his life.

5. Other notes

5.1. There is no sound used throughout the film, making the film allow on the visual picture to convey the message. It mainly uses non diegetic sound.
