1.1. Franklin D. Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, New York on January 30, 1882.

1.1.1. In 1905, he had married his distant cousin, Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, who was the niece of President Theodore Roosevelt.

1.1.1.1. The couple had six children, five of whom survived infancy.

2. Education

2.1. FDR's parents and private tutors provided him with almost all his formative education.

2.1.1. He attended Groton (1896-1900), a prestigious preparatory school in Massachusetts, and received a BA degree in history from Harvard in only three years (1900-03).

2.1.1.1. Roosevelt then studied law at New York's Columbia University, he passed the bar examination in 1907, and left school without taking a degree.

3. Political Journey

3.1. FDR practiced law with a prominent New York City law firm after college

3.1.1. He entered politics in 1910 and was elected to the New York State Senate as a Democrat

3.1.1.1. Roosevelt was reelected to the State Senate in 1912, and supported Woodrow Wilson's candidacy at the Democratic National Convention. As a reward for his support, Wilson appointed him Assistant Secretary of the Navy in 1913, a position he held until 1920.

4. Accomplishments

4.1. Guided the United States though the worst economic depression it has ever seen and formed Civil Work Program known as CWA that re-employed workers back into the workforce.

4.1.1. Lead the country though World War Two

4.1.1.1. Created FDIC. This is a banking system that ensures the security of individual accounts.

4.1.1.1.1. Implemented the National Industrial Recovery Act to improve working standards of the workers.
