3.2. After the war in 1949, Maria's biological parents requested that custody of their child be returned to them as they felt that they were the rightful parents

3.3. Nadra/Maria had been brought up as a muslim, only knew Muslim traditions

3.3.1. As a strategy to retain custody of Nadra, Aminah married her of to Mansoor when she was 13. However, in the eye's of the Dutch, this was an absolutely unacceptable age for marriage and did not acknowledge that the marriage was legal under Muslim traditions.

3.3.2. During her stay in Holland, Maria was not allowed to speak in Bahasa Melayu nor contact anyone in Singapore

3.4. Upon her forced return to Holland, Maria was portrayed in press releases as comfortable and delighted to be back in Holland. This angered the Muslim community back in Singapore as in fact Maria was unwilling to return to her biological parents
