Input/Output Devices by Mind Map: Input/Output Devices

1. INPUT DEVICES: Peripherals (devices that can be connected to the computer) used to enter data into a computer.

1.1. An example of an input device is a graphics tablet. This is used to create diagrams or artwork. One benefit to using graphics tablets is that teachers can use them in small groups by placing a word-processed or graphics document on a computer screen. They can then add comments to images or circle key concepts so that they stand out more for learners. One application to learning is that students can use graphics tablets to add illustrations to stories they have written for artistic effect. A challenge to using these tablets in the classroom is that students with physical disabilities may not be able to use them due to the possible difficulty they may have handling the stylus used to create diagrams and artwork. Students who are visually impaired will also probably not be able to use them.

2. OUTPUT DEVICES: Pieces of hardware that move information out of the computer

2.1. An example of an output device is a data projector. The biggest benefit to this device is that it projects images from a computer or video from a video source onto a screen that is large enough for an entire class to see at the same time. and some data projectors include a remote control which frees up teachers to roam around the classroom and interact with learners more instead of having to stay near the projector to change images. Its application to learning is that it can be used with Internet websites, so teachers can share virtually anything with the class to support lesson plans or to create activities for learning. One challenge to a data projector is that students who are visually impaired will not benefit from the teacher's ability to share images, websites, and videos with their whole class.
