Abraham Lincoln

1. Was born February 12, 1809 and died April 15, 1865.

2. He was the 16th president of the United States.

3. Brought about the emancipation of slaves.

4. Abraham Lincoln was elected to the Illinois state legislature in 1834 as a member of the Whig Party.

5. Abraham Lincoln served a single term in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1847 to 1849.

6. Abraham Lincoln served as a lobbyist for the Illinois Central Railroad as its company attorney.

7. Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. Lincoln was taken from the theater to a Petersen House across the street and laid in a coma for nine hours before dying the next morning.

8. Wrote the Gettysburg Address, and stated it in a speech.

9. Made the decision to fight to keep the nation from falling apart.
