Electronegativity is a chemical property that describes the ability of an atom to attract electrons to itself.

It was first proposed by Linus Pauling in 1932.
The higher the electronegativity number of an element, the more an element or compound attracts electrons towards it.
Electronegativity cannot be directly measured and must be calculated from other atomic or molecular properties.
It is measured on a scale (known as Pauling Scale) ranging from 0.7 - 3.98
The periodic table trend for Electronegativity is :
- increases as you go across
- increases as you go up
- does NOT include Noble Gases/Group 18
