1. Law And Order

1.1. Roman laws were very strict, crime was common Rome. So Romans tried to protect themselves against crime.

1.2. Any Roman even the poor could accuse someone for a crime.

1.3. Romans believed that one law should be applied to all citizens even though Roman laws were not applied equally

2. Daily Life

2.1. In the city’s Forum, or public gathering place, wealthy Roman women shopped for goods, accompanied by their slaves.

3.2. Romans always tried to please the Gods because they believed that they controlled their everyday lives.

3.3. Festivals or Holidays/Holy days were held throughout the year to honer the gods. Religion was part of everyday life in Rome.

4.1. Families were ruled by the father of the family.

4.2. When a baby was 9 days old he/she received a good luck charm that they wear around their neck throughout their childhood.

4.3. Roman men were supposed to provide for their family.

5. Food And Drink

5.1. What Romans cook depends on weather their rich or poor.

5.2. They ate bread, beans, spices, a few vegetables, cheeses, and meats. They drank plain water or hot water with herbs and honey.

5.3. Poor Romans might have chunks of fish along with some asparagus and a fig for dessert.

6. Housing

6.1. housing was very different in Rome for the rich and for the poor.

6.2. Wealthy Romans lived in grand houses, built of stone and marble.

7.1. Most poor children in Rome were sent to work instead of to school.

7.2. They used a pointed pen, called a stylus, to copy down lessons on small, wax-covered wooden boards.
