1. Religion

1.1. Rome had many temples an shrines where people would make offerings and sacrifices for their Gods. Rome held many holidays or holy days to honor the Gods. Eventually emperors where considered as Gods.

2. Family life

2.1. Family life in ancient Rome was ruled by the paterfamilias or the father. The men in the family were expected to provide their families with goods need. Women could also do this, but they had to be wealthy to be able to do this.

2.2. Children were picked by their fathers to be raised or to die or to be a slave. If the father wanted them he would have a ceremony after nine days where a baby would get a name and a bulla.

2.3. Between the age of 14 and eighteen women were expected to marry.

3. Food and drink

3.1. What kind of food the Romans ate depended on if they were wealthy or poor. The rich had kitchens and could cook, while the poor ate food cooked on a portable grill. Most food in Rome included bread, spices, cheese, meats, spices, and other vegetables. Roman markets offered many good choices of food if you could afford it.

4. Housing

4.1. The type of house you had depended on how rich you were. The poor would live in tall apartment that were crammed and were prone to diseases and fires. The rich got nice big houses made of marble and stone. The rich had many dinner parties, which guest got to relax on couches and be fed and entertained by slaves.

5. Education

5.1. Poor children in Rome didn't typically go to school because they had to learn and work in trades like metalworking, and leather working. If you were wealthy you were taught by your father or by a slave until the age six when the boys could go to school. Roman boys learned Latin, Greek, math, science, literature, music, and public speaking. They typically became soldiers, doctors, politicians, or lawyers. Girls might become dentists, real estate agents, or tutors. While having to walk to school early in the morning the boys would buy nuts and breads to eat as breakfast at breakfast bars.

6. Recreation

6.1. Many wealthy Romans had a lot of free time because slaves would do most of their work. Often these Romans would watch plays or go to the baths where massages and bathing was nice. Although the slaves where treated bad they were given opportunities to watch chariot races from the owners. They were gladiator fights and chariot races for entertainment.

7. Country life

7.1. Both poor and wealthy people lived in the country. Wealthy owner lived on villas and they used the place to relax from the city while earning money from farming and raising livestock. The slaves would do all the hard work along with poorer people. Much of Romes food came from farming and about 90% of everyone in the Roman empire lived in the country. If you were poor and were in the country you would live in small huts and work numerous hours trying to make enough money to survive.

8. Daily life

8.1. Nearly one million people lived in Ancient Rome. Rome was full of beautiful temples and palaces, but most people lived in small apartments that were crammed into narrow dirty streets.

8.2. Wealthy people could go to the forum where goods were bought and traded.

8.3. Most of the people in the city lived in poor neighborhoods with crime and diseases while only some of the empire was rich.

9. Law and order

9.1. The Romans believed in rule by the law, but the emperor had the full power and what he said went.

9.2. The senators continued to meet and they had very high social statuses.

9.3. Laws were harsh in Rome, but they had to be or else crime wouldn't stop. Any person could accuse someone of a crime, and then a jury of citizens would decide the case.
