Behavior of Waves
by Antonio Owens
1. Def: the bending of a wave as it moves around a obstacle or pass through a narrow opening.
1.1. my def: bending of a wave when going through an object or an object
1.1.1. Ex: an object in water
2. Diffraction
3. Interference
3.1. Def: two or more waves overlap and combine together.
3.1.1. multiple waves coming into one.
3.1.1.1. Ex: 2 cars collding
4. Constructive Interference
4.1. Def: two or more waves combine to produce a wave with a larger displacement.
4.1.1. My def: multiple waves combining to make an even bigger wave.
4.1.1.1. Ex: a child being pushed on a swing
5. Standing Wave
5.1. Def: a wave that appears to stay in place
5.1.1. My def: a wave moving but it looks like it isnt
5.1.1.1. tie one end of a rope to a chair and shake the other end
6. Reflection
6.1. Def: When a wave bounces off a surface that it cannot pass through
6.1.1. My def: An object not passing through something
6.1.1.1. Ex: mirrors or a lake
7. Refraction
7.1. Bending of a wave as it enters a new medium at an angle
7.1.1. My def: A wave going into a new medium
7.1.1.1. Ex: a lawnmower turning
8. Destructive Interference
8.1. two or more waves combine to produce a wave with a smaller displacements.
8.1.1. My def: multiple waves combining to make a smaller wave.
