Forces and Structures by Mind Map: Forces and Structures

1. Form and Function

1.1. Everything will have a form, it can let us know their appearance.

1.2. Everythings has different function, the different function can help us. Example car has a function that can help us go do a place faster.

2. Center of Gravity

2.1. The point of a structure where the most weight is.

3. Types of Structures (Solid, Shell, Frame, Combination)

3.1. Solid Structure

3.1.1. A structure that is made up of strong and hard materials. These types of structures are strong and can withstand forces for long periods of time.

3.2. Frame Structure

3.2.1. A structure that is made from a skeleton of materials that balance each other out.

3.3. Combination Structure

3.3.1. A structure that is made up of different parts of solid, shell and frame structures.

3.4. Shell Structure

3.4.1. A structure that is hollow, but still very strong and does not weigh a lot.

4. Internal Forces

4.1. A force that is caused by an external force and acts on the inside of structure.

4.1.1. Tension

4.1.1.1. pull something both side at the same time

4.1.2. Compression

4.1.2.1. Push down something

4.1.3. Torsion

4.1.3.1. Use force to twice something

4.1.4. Shear

4.1.4.1. Cut something into half

5. External Forces

5.1. A force that acts on the outside of a structure.

5.1.1. Direction

5.1.1.1. If the structure is pushing or pulling

5.1.2. Magnituide

5.1.2.1. How light or soft the force was applied.

5.1.3. Play of Application

5.1.3.1. The angle that the force hit the structure at.

5.1.4. Point of Application

5.1.4.1. The part of the structure where pressure is enforced

6. Loads

6.1. Dynamic Loads

6.1.1. This is when certain forces are applied on purpose to help the structure hold the load.

6.2. Live loads

6.2.1. When the stucture have people or other things on it, it is called a live load.

6.3. Dead loads

6.3.1. The stucture have a force cause on itself that doesn't change.
