1. Middle Colonies
1.1. New York
1.1.1. King Charles II brother, James founded the colony. James conquered the territory. For the base of profitable fur trade between the Dutch and Native Americans. Sweden, France, Portugal, and some English Puritans. It was named New Netherlands and then renamed New York after James, the Duke of York.
1.2. Delaware
1.2.1. People from Sweden founded the colony. Delaware separated from Pennyslvania. Delaware settlers did not want to send delegates to a distant assembly in Philadelphia. European Settlers. Delaware is the smallest state on the coast directly south of New Jersey.
1.3. New Jersey
1.3.1. King Charles II brother, James founded New Jersey. It was split off of southern New York. To form a new colony. Swede, France, Portugal, and some English Puritans.
