2.1.1.1. Almost every person and some gods see Odysseus as a hero and try to help him. Odysseus is a very strong man who is very good at fighting and winning most battles. Odysseus is very clever at making plans in a crisis. Odysseus isn't that good at keeping his crew under control. Example: Odysseus defeats Polyphemus by getting Polyphemus drunk and then stabbing Polyphemus in the eye. Polyphemus then stands at the entrance of the cave, waiting for Odysseus and his crew to try to run out of the cave and back to their boat to escape. Odysseus comes up with a plan to hide under Polyphemus's sheep, which Polyphemus lets out of the cave. not knowing that Odysseus and his crew were hiding under them. An example of Odysseus not keeping track of his men is when Odysseus let his men get drunk and slaughter many cows, sheep, and pigs. This angered Zeus. Zeus blew them off course into an island far away from Odysseus and his crews home town.
