3. Polk was determined to get the California and New Mexico territories from Mexico.
4. After the war, the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed on February 1848.
4.1. In the treaty, Mexico gave up all clams to Texas and agree to the Rio Grande as the border between Texas and Mexico.
