Firehouse Light

1. The firehouse was a wooden shack and the firefighters were volunteers only. Firefighters used buckets of water to put out the fire. People only used lanterns to see inside houses made it hard to the firemen to see where they were going. A man gave the firefighters the bulb as a gift.

4.1. Town has a movie theater. The firehouse had a record player and safety gear, such as special boots, smoke masks and tools.

5.1. Airplanes flew overhead. The fire station was rebuilt. Firefighters used helmets and heavy coats.

6. Town built a firehouse. The earliest cars were seen in town and the firefighters used a hose cart.

7. 1951

7.1. Firefighters are hired as employees. They are no longer volunteers.

9.1. Town built another new fire station and moved the bulb again. This time the town had a celebration for their now-famous bulb.

10.1. Children began to practice STOP, DROP & ROLL.

11.1. Computers and 911 can pinpoint exact locations of fires. Many types of bulbs are used now.

13.1. The town celebrated 100 years that their firehouse light continued to burn!
