1. Interpersonal Accord and Conformity

1.1. pleasing or helping other to get approval or avoid disapproval. good behavior meets the needs and expectations of others.

1.1.1. Brian is always trying to get the group to like him by going along with what they are all doing. he would always join in on conversations in the beginning about what clubs he was in so that the others could see what he does, even if they didn't like the same thing. he was always trying to get the group to like him by doing what they were also doing.

2. Normative Influence

2.1. Change attitudes and behavior to fit in with the group because of the desire to belong.

2.1.1. "Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice... think your crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us...out is that each one of us is a brain." Brian starts to back mouth the teacher because he feels like he needs to give him the same attitude that the other students in detention do to fit in with them. Brian has realized that his attitude and behavior has changed throughout the day and doesn't want to be a nerd anymore and wants to be a cool kid.

3. Chameleon Effect

3.1. Humans tend to go with their group and take on emotional tones around us.

3.1.1. This effect comes into play when at the end of the movie all the kids in detention start to talk about their feelings and what they do not like about themselves and Brian is not the type of kid to just come out and tell his feelings, so he follows along with the other kids with the sadness of what they do not like about themselves.

4. Foot-in-the-door phenomenon

4.1. the tendency for people who have first agreed to a small request to comply later with a larger request

4.1.1. the smaller request that Brian agreed to do was to write the paper that Mr.Vernon told everyone to write. then after that he felt like he belonged with them and started doing other stuff that he may not have done before, like smoking.

5. Identification

5.1. trying to become like someone else to deal with one's anxiety

5.1.1. Brian participates in smoking during the movie. He would not usually take part in this action but because he is worries about fitting in he will do whatever it takes to be like the kids in his detention.

6. Neuroticism

6.1. Refers to emotional instability or stability. People who are excessive worriers, over anxious, and moody would score high on this dimension, whereas those who are even more even- tempered and calm would score low.

6.1.1. "I'm a f****n' idiot because I cannot make a lamp". Brian I would say is an excessive worrier. He always needs things to be perfect even if it is just a lamp for a wood shop class.

7. Real Self vs. Ideal Self

7.1. Real self- ones actual perception of characteristics, straits, abilities that form a basis of striving for self actualization VS Ideal self- perception of what one should be or would like to be

7.1.1. "its like me, you know, with my grades, Like when i step outside myself kinda... and i see me and i don't like what i see, I don't like it" Brian's real self is who he is. He is focused on his grades and is a nerd but he really wants to be someone else and wants to be cool and fit in with others.

8. Parenting Style: Authoritative

8.1. an authoritative parent is highly supportive and closely monitors and sets rules

8.1.1. Brians parents set high standards for what his academic standards should be like, that failing isn't an option for him. "I can't have an F, i can't have it and I know my parents can't have it. Even if I aced the rest of the semester, I'm still only a B. And everythings ruined for me."
