How the Game Works:

Students watch 2 Voki videos (President & MIG Force) at home that present the

problem. They also have to read through the instructions for the game, and can test out the mind mapping tool (www.mindmeister.com). When the students come to class the next day, they are divided into 5 groups. The first stage of the game will be completed as a whole class activity to confirm an understanding of the game and how to use the mind mapping tool.

Each group will then be given the Phase 1 assignment that has five tasks to

complete. Each task will require research, a picture, a performance, etc.,

which will be compiled in a digital/online journal in the mind mapping tool. They

must also record the time it takes them to complete each task.

****To teach the Mind Mapping Tools, the class will work together on the SmartBoard to create a group mind map to answer phase 1 of the game.

As the students “travel” to each country, they have to figure out all costs associated with the trip (tickets, passports, visas, vaccines, hotel, food, expenses, etc.). There is a total budget for the project: $65,000. All expenses from all groups must me recorded and tallied because they cannot go over budget. They have to work with other groups to figure out the costs and how to stay within the budgetary cap. They cannot go over.

At the end of each correctly completed task, the group will be given a letter of the

alphabet, which they must hold on to and record. Each group has unique tasks to

fulfill; so no group has the same assignment. BUT it is in each group’s

interest to help the other groups. So if one group finishes quickly, they must

help the others. The letters that each group receives will all have to be

combined at the end to spell out the final answer to solve the problem. This

final step will involve solving a 5 part riddle using the letters they received. The entire class must

work together to figure it out.

This game will be played over several class periods.
