My Experience with the Arts

1. Visual Art

1.1. Have loved drawing, illustrating and painting from a very young age.

1.2. Have always been quite immersed in a visual arts culture. Regularly visit art galleries, exhibitions and have many friends who are artists.

1.3. Particularly interested in pop surrealism, lowbrow and street art and traditional Japanese woodblock prints.

2. Music

2.1. Music has always been a huge part of my life and, like visual art, I have always been very much immersed in a musical culture.

2.2. Come from a musical family. I learnt to read music and play the piano as a child.

2.3. Passionate about a broad range of musical genres

3. Dance

3.1. Not an area I have much experience in and feel I am somewhat uncoordinated and self conscious

3.2. Had some negative experiences learning dance in school due to poor pedagogy and insensitive teachers

4. Drama

4.1. Another area I have little experience in

4.2. I am a naturally reserved person so drama is quite a challenge for me, but when I have participated (with support from teachers and peers) I have enjoyed it and learnt a lot.

4.3. Engage in, and encourage, a lot of role play with children in my position as a part time kindergarten teacher.

5. Media

5.1. I received very little experience of media studies in primary or high school

5.2. During my university studies I have had many opportunities to further develop my understanding of multimodality and media arts
