1. Faith School

1.1. A school intended to educate those of a particular religious faith.

2. City Technology College

2.1. Independently managed "free" schools built in urban areas for students between the ages of 11 to 18. These schools focus on Science, Technology and World Finances and offer both GCSEs and A Levels.

3. State-funded Comprehensive Schools

3.1. A state school that doesn't select students on the basis of ability (Opposite of grammar school) and is funded by a government. (E.G. Public School).

4. Grammar Schools

4.1. A secondary school where students are selected based on ability.

5. Independent School

5.1. An Independent School is a type of school where its income is independent of national (or local) government funding. (Private School) These schools are able to set their own curriculum.

6. City Academy

6.1. A school that is funded partly by a government and partly by a business (or other organisation). The school itself is controlled by the organisation. A school becomes an academy when a failing school (Designated by OFSTED) is closed and reopened by the government, however this only happens in extreme cases.

7. Free School

7.1. A school set up by an organisation or group of individual and funded by the government. (Not controlled by local authority.

8. Academy

8.1. A school that focusses on the study and training of a special field.
