1. Database structure

1.1. File

1.1.1. A collection of data on one topic in a simple database. A file is a collection of data on one topic in a simple database. For example all the data for a sports club would be stored in one file, possibly called ‘Sports_Club’. All the data about cars for sale in a garage would be stored in one file, possibly called ‘Cars’.

1.2. Field

1.2.1. A column. Each piece of information in a record is stored in a field. Each field has a field column.

1.3. Record

1.3.1. A record is a single piece of information. An individual entry in the file for each person or for each car is called a record. A record contains all the information for one item / person in the database.

2. What are they?

2.1. Definition

2.1.1. A database is an organised collection of data. Database management systems are specially designed applications that interact with the user, other programs/applications and the database to allow data to be managed and analysed.

2.2. Uses

2.2.1. Contacts (e.g. phone number, address, email etc)

2.2.2. Social Media (e.g. number of followers, number of views, number of re - tweets etc)
