Mise-en-Scene by Mind Map: Mise-en-Scene

1. Mise-en-scene is for the directors to portray certain aspects of a film like themes, narrative and characters.

2. Props

2.1. Props can also tell us what a characters are like for example if they own many maps or carry a compass then we know they most likely enjoy travelling. or if there is a character that has an extremely messy room it tells us that they probably tells us that they has quite a messy personality or life.

2.2. Props can also help set a scene for us as well. if there is a lot of dustbins we see in a town then it tells us that this particular town is not nice and isn't friendly.

3. Location

3.1. Location helps set a scene it is important when choosing where to set a film. you would set a high school teen movie in a desert it would have a school as its location.

4. Scenery

4.1. Scenery is used to add to your location so the audience actually knows what the location is. for example to know that you have a young girls bedroom you would add pink and purple colours, toys and maybe posters of a children's show.

5. costume

5.1. Another thing a costume can do is tell the audience what personality a character has. If a girl is wearing quite revealing top or a guy isn't wearing a top at all this means they are a confident character. However if a character like to have their hood up all the time it probably means they are shy or even quite secretive.

5.2. costume can really help the audience know what the main charactes relationship between other characters are. for example if the main characters parents are wearing colourful clothes then it probably means they have a good relationship. Also if characters are wearing similar clothing then it tells us that they are quite similar.

5.3. it is always important that if you are creating a film that you keep each characters (especially main characters) costumes stay the same otherwise it breaks the whole image of the film.

6. Framing

6.1. framing is really important because this is what brings in all of the Mise-en-Scene. you have to make sure you don't get anything in frame that you don't want ,e.g. storyboard or script, otherwise it will break whole audience experience.

6.2. you also have to make sure that you frame the thing that is important correctly so the audience concentrates on that and not something else in the scene.
