1. Individual and Shared Goals - Instructor provides goals to be accomplished by an individual as well as group goals.
2. Shared Resources and Knowledge - through collaborative activities and Social Media presence in online learning peers and instructors can share information beneficial to all involved.
3. Knowledge Management - critical for successful completion of collaborative projects.
4. Technology - The glue that holds it all together.
5. Social Presence and Identity - "the opposite of being alone" in an online course "the sense of being part of a group" with REAL people learning with you.
6. Membership - easy to achieve with simple enrollment. Membership has to be developed into something more through facilitation of the instructor.
6.1. Communication and Interactions - being an active "member" in course discussions and activities. Participating in collaborative projects.
7. Policies and Guidelines - Resources like Quality Matters Rubrics are useful to creating a successful and well planned online course.
