1. Whiteness
1.1. Jews
1.2. Irish
1.3. Both in the same predicament as they were seen as inferior races even though they were white.
1.3.1. Managed to become "white" through population growth and economic assimilation.
2. White/Minority Communities
2.1. Discrimination continued over the years as Suburbia was created to further the "American Dream"
2.2. Black families seen as a degradation on pure "white" communities and devalued them.
2.2.1. As a result white communities thrived and grew in wealth while black communities suffered.
3. Racial Voting Policies
3.1. The lasting discrimination left over from the Jim Crow laws made it very difficult for African Americans to vote as they were considered 2nd class.
3.1.1. Held true for Black veterans returning from WWII
4. Reconstruction
4.1. After Lincoln's assassination, reconstruction turned from being unifying and forgiving as Lincoln wanted it, to being self defeating in its handling of the new order, creating discriminatory and unfair laws.
4.1.1. Share-cropping
4.1.2. Made it difficult for Negros to own land.
4.1.3. Gave freedom but instituted new laws that would not let them enjoy freedom.
5. Jim Crow laws
5.1. African Americans were relegated to the status of second class citizens
5.2. Created a lasting era of discrimination against African Americans.
5.2.1. Plessy v Ferguson
5.2.2. Separate but equal
