What kind of media insitutions might distribute your media product and why? by Mind Map: What kind of media insitutions might distribute your media product and why?

1. Conglomerate (e.g Walt Disney Studios)

1.1. Points:

1.1.1. The companies are bigger so there would be more money spent on the film. This means better cameras, A list actors, etc.

1.1.2. There would be a bigger profit overall as the company would have enough money to distribute it well.

1.1.3. The film would be seen by more people.

1.1.4. They can normally spend more money as they are usually bigger companies.

1.1.5. HOWEVER

1.1.6. We would get a smaller cut of the profit.

1.1.7. We would have less artistic power.

1.1.8. The film would be more mainstream and not unique.

2. Independent (e.g Coffee Films)

2.1. Points:

2.1.1. We would have more control over our film and its contents.

2.1.2. Our film would be more unique and less mainstream.

2.1.3. We would have a bigger cut of the profit.

2.1.4. We would have lots of creative power.

2.1.5. HOWEVER

2.1.6. We wouldn't make as much money as if a big film company distributed it.

2.1.7. It would be riskier as people might not want to see a film unless they recognise a famous director or actor.

3. US Companies (e.g. Lionsgate)

3.1. Points:

3.1.1. Our film would be distributed over a bigger area quicker as it would be shown in America first. Also the film festivals, etc would be on a bigger scale.

3.1.2. US companies tend to be bigger: so better cameras and studios would be used, etc.

3.1.3. The US film industry is bigger so they have more influence than UK companies.

3.1.4. They can normally spend more money as they are usually bigger companies.

3.1.5. HOWEVER

3.1.6. We would get a smaller cut of the profit.

3.1.7. We would have less artistic power.

3.1.8. The film wouldn't have all the British quirks that we love.

4. UK Companies (e.g. Vertigo Films)

4.1. Points:

4.1.1. It would help people in the UK relate to it more. This is because they'd understand the cultural quirks in the film.

4.1.2. They know the UK industry and audience.

4.1.3. It would keep the money within the UK and we'd get a bigger cut of the profit as most British companies are smaller.

4.1.4. It can focus distribution within the UK. For example, it would be shown at British film festivals.

4.1.5. We would have more creative power.

4.1.6. HOWEVER

4.1.7. We wouldn't make as much money as it wouldn't be distributed across North America to start with. It'd probably start out at film festivals.

5. We will be picking an Independent UK company called Coffee Films this is because..

5.1. It was formed in 1996 and is based around Kent which isn't too far away from us. It has films that have been screened worldwide and has won various awards. It has also had seven figure budgets for some films.

5.2. Our film would have lots of British quirks so it would be unique and we would have a lot of the artistic control. So, British people would relate to it more.

5.3. We would have a larger cut of the profit as there would be less people working on it than there would be if a conglomerate company was in charge.

5.4. This company understands the British industry and audience and would be able to promote it easily at places such as film festivals.

5.5. We are prepared to take the risk of people not liking it because we aren't motivated by money and would rather have an interesting, unique film.
