AGAPE'S MUSICAL ELEMENTS

1. Melody - series of singe tones that make up a theme or tune -has direction, shape and continuity -steps (small intervals), leaps (large intervals) - legato (when melody is played smoothly), staccato (when melody is short and detached)

2. Rhythm - flow of music through time - consists of a beat (regular pulses that decide music) tempo: speed of beat tempo indication: will tell you the speed in which you must play by using a Italian term or metronome
3. Texture - consistency of music sounds, how many layers are heard - monophonic: singing alone, one single layer - homophonic: melody accompanied by chords - polophonic: multiple independent lines
4. Timbre - quality or colour of sound - allows us to distinguish between instruments - helps with naming instruments
5. Harmony - way chords are constructed and follow eac other - gives us variety chord: combination of 2 or more tones together consonance: tone combonstion tonic chord: main chord, domonant: pulled towardstonic chord
6. Form - shape or order of music - repitition used for basic music structure
