1. Teacher Resources

1.1. Site is password protected, allows for the inclusion of attachments, and generates reports for teachers about student use. Students do not need to have email addresses to participate. Also includes a Topic Library for teachers to connect with resources from other teachers around the world. (S. Owens)

2. Early Elementary Grades Uses

2.1. "Send" homework or practice tests home, to eliminate the paper waste and general chaos that comes with these things at the early elementary level. It could also be used for independent work for advanced students while teachers work with students who need more support. (S. Owens)

2.1.1. Now that I'm working in the 3rd grade, there is so much waste when it comes to paper waste. So this website could help eliminate a lot of it but the one main issue is that not every family will have access to the internet or computer to get the work. - Jonathan Price

2.1.1.1. Jonathan & Cameron - Believe me, the district in which I live/student teach is one that could never use this technology, at least for anything that must go home, because so many of our students don't have computers or tablets at home. But in some districts, it would really help in that regard. -Shannon

2.1.2. To piggyback off of Jonathan, even in the secondary grades there is a lot of paper waste. I truly believe that some parts of education still need paper and pen to really be effective but there is so much more we could do online or on a computer, the problem is there aren’t enough laptops and computers in the school for all of my classes on a daily basis. I think this is going to be a struggle for a while since technology is a big expense up front even though it can save money in the long run many public schools and tax payer just see the big initial expense. This tool would be a great way to eliminate paper waste and encourage collaboration when computers are available (Erin Cameron)

3. Student Use Tools

3.1. Features include teacher-determined learning groups, polls, discussions, tests, collaborative projects, etc (S. Owens)

3.1.1. Are there mobile phone applications? For older students who have phones, it would be nice for polls to be done via their phones. J. Whetzel

3.1.1.1. Good questions - not just for polls but also discussions, collaborating, etc. -Dr. Fritz

3.1.1.2. Jim - As they say, "There' an app for that!" There is the "basic" Collaborize Classroom app, as well as Collaborize Classroom Pro that was designed specifically for the iPad. - Shannon

4. Upper Elementary Grades Uses

4.1. Collaborative Projects: The teacher puts research resources on the site for students to use. The students could use the discussion forum to determine responsibility for portions of the project, then work together to create their final project on the site. (S. Owens)

4.2. As a middle school special education teacher who works with students in grades 6, 7, & 8...I really like the idea of students using the discussion forum to determine project responsibility. Z. VELYKIS

4.2.1. I think it would definitely depend on the students. I would hate to see some of the negative aspects of online behavior (cyber-bullying, etc.) find their way into the academic setting in this way. -Shannon

5. Other Ideas

5.1. Schools could use this tool to provide content on snow days so that they don't have to make that time up later. This would be a great tool for that IF the district knew that all students have Internet access at home. It would also be a great tool to use with students who are unable to attend school in a traditional manner due to illness, etc.. (S. Owens)
