Physical Classification of Sediments

1. Muds are very fine silt and clay sized particles of rocks.
2. Ooze is a soft fine sediment that covers 40% of the ocean floor
2.1. Calcareous ooze is ooze that is made mostly of calcium carbonate can never be found beneath 5 km. Calcium carbonate is found dissolved in the deep cold ocean water.
2.2. Siliceous ooze can be found at any depth, and is made of mostly silicone dioxide which comes from shells of radiolarians and diatom.
3. Red clay is a common type of mud which is made of atleast 40% clay particles and is mixed with silt sand and biogenic material.
