1. 1957 -- USSR was the first country to launch an artificial satellite into Earth's orbit
2. 1962 -- ARPA made a computer research program called the Information Processing Technologies Office
3. 1966 -- IPTO developed computer that could transmit information through telephone lines
4. 2002 -- Over 36 million users now are logged onto the internet everyday.
5. 1999 -- American Online bought the company NetScape.
6. 2000 -- Now more than half of the internet users in the world use the search engine Internet Explore by Microsoft.
7. 1969 -- Leonard Kleinrock made a computer capable of handling digital packet-switched data on a UCLA "host" computer.
8. 1971 -- There were 23 host computers available
9. 1994 -- Mosaic Communications was formed by Jim Clark and Andreessen
10. 1995 -- Microsoft company created its own search engine for the World Wide Web, Internet Explore.
11. 1975 -- This public network, called Telenet, began service in seven U.S. cities
12. 1991 -- Gopher, a search program, became accessible.
13. 1992 -- Two students made it easier to access information on the World Wide Web.
14. 1993 -- Mosaic Internet Program was finally free of cost. Thousands of people downloaded it.
