The Giver Community

1. CEREMONIES: There are different Ceremonies, one through twelve.

2. The Elders select the Assignment for the people based on what they are interested in.

3. RULES: If a rule is broken it is announced to everyone, but doesn't tell the name of who broke it.

4. RULES: You can't talk about things that are different about a person because it is considered rude.

5. CEREMONIES: At the Ceremony of Nine, all of the children in that group are given a bicycle and the girls remove the ribbons in their hair.

6. RULES: No one is to teach a child to ride a bicycle until they are a Nine. But, the rule is always broken.

7. JOBS:

8. Doctor, the people who help heal others.

9. Birthmother, the women who give birth to the newborns.

10. Department of Justice, the group who punish the ones who brake rules.

11. FAMILY UNIT: In the evening, the family unit has a feeling sharing ritual. It is when they each share the feelings they felt that day and why.

12. FAMILY UNIT: In a Family unit, there are only two children, one male and one female.

12.1. The children are named as they are given to the family unit.

13. Certain groups have certain requirements.

14. CEREMONIES: The Ceremony of One is when the newborn children the previous year are named and given to a family.

15. JOBS: You don't choose your job, the Elders do, you just use your volunteer hours where you want to work and hope that's what you get.

16. Nurturer, the people who take care of the newborns before they become Ones.

17. Engineer, the people who build.
