1. Leadership

1.1. Theodore Roosevelt

1.1.1. Theodore Roosevelt was the President of the United States during the time of this imperialism, Roosevelt, had a big impact with the Spanish American war in which he was the one leading the rough riders which helped lead to a victory for the United States.

1.2. Woodrow Wilson

1.2.1. Woodrow helped with foreign policies in which he brought a closer end to imperialism. He thought that every country should be able to have the government it pleases.

2. Nationalism

2.1. Due to nationalism, the United States began to conquer other places and gain them as territories, being that they were really confident about themselves and they were very patriotic about their country. This also led them to believe in being able to conquer other countries and territories with ease.

3. Causes for expansion

3.1. Yellow Journalism

3.1.1. The exciting form of writing in which the truth is most likely exaggerated or false.

3.2. USS Maine

3.2.1. The USS Maine was a ship that belonged to the United States. This ship was destroyed by a mine. There was disputing over whose fault it was that the ship was destroyed, the end result was the United States waging war against the Spanish for believing that the Spanish purposely destroyed the war ship.

4. Open Door Policy

4.1. This policy allowed for countries to be able to trade with the U.S. more freely. The countries relations with other countries improved.

5. Cuba

5.1. Cuba was where the war waged between the United States and Spain was waged. At the end of the war, Spain ended up leaving in defeat,the Teller Amendment kept Cuba from being taken over by the United States.

5.2. The PLATT amendment was made and as a result, the United States military had to leave Cuba.
