Performance objective: To calculate the difference of the circumferences of two circles with different radii and diameters. by Mind Map: Performance objective: To calculate the difference of the circumferences of two circles with different radii and diameters.

1. ELL student #1 Readiness: requires a dictionary to understand some mathematical terms Interests: sketching and drawing, book reading Learning Profile: tactile and visual, work well independently

1.1. Ask student to view Khan Academy’s discussion on YouTube about circle and its parts-- circumference, radius, and diameter. Let him take notes about what he has learned from the video clip.

1.2. Ask student to draw a picture of two circles, one big and one small, that includes their radii and diameters.. Ask him to label each part of the circles.

1.3. Have the student use the formula for the circumference of a circle that he has learned from Khan Academy to solve the circumferences of two circles and calculate the difference of the circumferences.

1.4. After he is done, have him show you the result of his work.

2. ELL student #2 Readiness: has a problem memorizing correctly formulas for solving problems Interests: listening to music, play scrabble and boggle Learning Profile: auditory, reflective/logical

2.1. After the lesson presentation, ask student to record with his smartphone the formula for the circumference of a circle using his own voice.

2.2. Then let him listen to the recording with his earphone until he can write at will the formula for a circumference. Let him recite the formula while he writes it down.

2.3. Have him read the problem orally and write down each known and unknown variables.

2.4. Then let him calculate the circumferences of the two circles and their difference.

3. Low-achieving learner: Readiness: difficulty translating word problems into an equation (s) Interests: plays volleyball and computer games Learning Profile: visual, interactive

3.1. Show the student two circles, C1 and C2, with r1 and r2 respectively. Explain that each of this circles has distinct circumferences, Circum1 and Circum2.

3.2. On the board, using the formula for calculating the circumference of a circle, teacher solve Circum1 and Circum2.

3.3. Have the student use an iPad to take a picture of the two circles, C1 and C2 and the solution to Circum1 and Circum2 and ask him to review it once or twice until he understand it.

3.4. Ask the student the join a team in solving the difference of the circumferences of two circles given.

4. ADHD student Readiness: has difficulty visualizing the problem in its entirety Interests: listening to music, watch cartoons on TV Learning Profile: sequential, kinesthetic,

4.1. Have student watch on YouTube the “circumference of a circle” song.

4.2. Have him solve the circumference of the first circle on his own desk.

4.3. Then ask him to pair with another classmate to solve the circumference of the second circle.

4.4. Finally, ask him to join a group solving the difference of the circumferences of the two circles.
