Character - Bob Ewell by Mind Map: Character - Bob Ewell

1. How others see them

1.1. He is disliked by a large amount of the general public just for how rude he is. He has an enemy in Atticus, as to follow the lie that he convinces Mayella to follow about Tom he pretends that Atticus is saving her rapist. In reality his choices to go against his views are what frustrates him and is openly confrontational to him. He verbally harasses and abuses Jem and Scout thanks partially for their association to the issue, and blackmails Helen Robinson.

2. Acts like:

2.1. He is also shown to have poor ability to handle money, as it is said that he drinks up the little that he earns often as opposed to fully providing for his family the best he can.

2.2. He is also an alcoholic - it is hinted in Atticus' chat with Mayella that she's a little intimidated by her father. She is uncomfortable being questioned about her father's drinking habits, and while she does deny being abused, she is a little twitchy before doing so.

2.3. On occasions he has spit in the faces of people, threatened them, etc. He has barely any respect for whomever he talks to.

3. Motivations:

3.1. Bob Ewell is one of the main obstacles between Tom Robinson and his freedom throughout the novel. He holds an active role in the court case, and is very vocal in getting the man locked up. This is also the reason for his manipulation of Mayella.

4. Beliefs & Values

4.1. He is naturally racist, and hates black people. This is the real reason for the manipulation of his daughter to call the act rape once it is publicized.

4.2. His morality is kind of messed up. He is a very selfish man and all of his decisions are fueled by his own will.

5. Looks Like:

5.1. His stature is small and his motions are ungraceful. His skin tone is a pale white but reddens easily. He has straggly long hair and a crooked, pointed nose.
