"The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch" by Chris Barton

1. Somebody

1.1. John Roy Lynch was born into slavery in the state of Louisiana and had an enslaved mother and Irish father.

1.2. He had two older brothers names Edward and William.

1.3. At the age of sixteen he became a free man, due to the Emancipation Proclamation, but still saw that African Americans were not treated equally.

2. Wanted

2.1. He wanted all citizens be granted the same freedoms and opportunities as other Americans.

3. But

3.1. He found that the same opportunities were not given to black men during the Reconstruction Era.

3.2. He witnessed white people trying to scare African Americans away from the polls.

5.1. He went on to strongly promote the Civil Rights Bill and continued Congressional Reconstruction in the South.

5.2. He continued to serve in politics and promote equality, as well as be a voice for the struggles and history of African Americans, until his death in 1939.

6.2. He was elected as a Republican Mississippi State Representative in 1869 and later to the U.S. House of Representatives.
