Types of organisms by Mind Map: Types of organisms

1. AEROBES

1.1. DEFINITION

1.1.1. organisms that can use gaseous oxygen in its metabolism and processes the enzymes needed to process toxic oxygen products

1.2. 1) Obligate aerobes

1.2.1. organisms that cannot grow without oxygen

1.2.2. Example - Bacillus

1.3. 2) Facultative anaerobes

1.3.1. an aerobe that does not require oxygen for metabolism but capable of growth in the absence of it

1.3.2. Example - Staphylococci

1.4. 3) Microaerophile

1.4.1. organisms that does not grow at normal atmospheric concentrations of oxygen but requires a small amount of it in metabolism

1.4.2. Example - organisms lives in soil, water and human body

2. ANAEROBES

2.1. DEFINITION

2.1.1. organisms that lacks the metabolic enzyme system for using oxygen in respiration

2.2. 1) Obligate anaerobes

2.2.1. organisms that lack the enzymes for processing toxic oxygen and thus cannot tolerate oxygen

2.2.2. Example - lives in highly reduced habitats

2.3. 2) Aerotolerant anaerobes

2.3.1. organisms that do not utilizes oxygen but can survive and grow to a limited extent in its presence

2.3.2. Examples - lactobacilli
