1. Diagnostic

1.1. Its purpose is to ascertain, prior to instruction, each student's strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills.

1.2. Establishing these permits the instructor to remediate students and adjust the curriculum to meet each learner's unique needs.

3.1. Differentiated formative feedback according to learners ability, grade level, and subject.

4. Summative

4.1. End of unit or end of year

4.2. Formal assessments such as standardized testing, final exams, major projects or research projects.

4.3. Results are graded for report cards or state reports

5. Interim

5.1. Mid-unit/lesson assessment used to evaluate where students are in their learning progress

5.2. Used to determine whether students are on track to performing well on future summative assessments

5.3. Information can be used to adjust instruction

5.4. Informal assessments or benchmarks
