Processes by Mind Map: Processes

1. Processing

1.1. Processing manipulates the data by updating and editing it. In a computer-based system, the processing process is performed by the central processing unit (CPU).

1.2. Hardware: CPU (central processing unit), RAM (Random Access Memory) and the Motherboard as a whole

1.3. Functions: Performs arithmetic and logic functions, handles the Fetch-Execute cycle

1.4. Processing may be: centralised, parallel or distrbuted

2. Transmitting and recieving

2.1. Transfers data and information between information systems. This process allows communication between different devices and require three basic components a sender, a medium and a receiver.

2.2. Hardware: Modem, ports, telephone lines via cables (E.g. Coaxial, fibre optic)

2.3. Functions: simply put, the transmitting of data, allow communication (E.g. telecommunication and emails) and the receiving of data

3. Displaying

3.1. Displaying is the output of the final information from an information system. Displaying usually encompasses the representation of data in any form, be it audio, visual, etc.

3.2. Hardware: monitor/screen (LCD, CRT), overhead projectors, speakers, heads-up display

3.3. Functions: representing data to a user via technology, that appeal to the five senses
