1. Technological
1.1. Wave energy is the transport of energy by the wind and waves.
1.2. wind generation such as wind turbine can convert energy using the wind which is a good technological way to produce energy because it is a healthy use of energy and sustainable and does not affect anyone or anything.
1.3. geothermal power is a healthy energy using the heat of the earth and sustainable as well.
1.4. Hydroelectricity is the plant capturing the energy from the falling waters. This generate electricity using the turbine which then converts into kinetic energy of the falling water and then converts further to mechanical energy.
2. Social/Cultural Factors
2.1. 70% total energy is non-renewable energy
2.2. Since New Zealand population is still growing, we need a sustainable resource to keep our energy going such as coal, we need to keep the use of coal in control of our own energy and use a variety of other sources.
3. Location Factors
3.1. New Zealand country is isolated
3.2. Nz has given permits to several overseas oil companies such as Annodarko and Chevron to prospect in the Northland, Taranaki and Canterbury Basins.
4. Environmental Factors
4.1. Oil spills
4.2. Oil spills are destroying fish lives and coasts, and also destroying NZ's clean green image.
4.3. The more deeper we sea oil drill, the more risk we are taking of a breaking pipe which then can cause sea animals to die.
5. Natural Factors
5.1. New Zealand wind mills generates a small growing proportion of the country's electricity.
5.2. Solar energy in New Zealand
5.3. Around 53% of our electricity is produced through renewable hydro-power.
5.4. 30% of our total energy is renewable source
5.5. There are a lot of rivers in the South Island of New Zealand due to the Mountainous environment which makes hydropower a good option.
6. Economic Factors
6.1. Around 93% of NZ oil is imported
6.2. Drilling oil can damage New Zealand.
6.3. Nz also exports the oil we produce, it is the 4th biggest exporters.
6.4. Mineral extractions is a multi billion dollar industry.
6.5. Countributed $110 million to our GDP through the purchase of licences for the overseas oil.
7. Political Factors
7.1. The national government aim is to improve the security of Nz's energy production.
7.2. Thousands of jobs for the North island in deep sea oil drilling.
